Week 14: General Conference

Salutaciones mis estimados camaradas. Espero que hayan tenido una gran semana. Todo normal aquí en Zacatlán. Casi toda la semana nos enfocamos en la lista de miembros inactivos, lo cual no ha brindado mucho resultado. Hemos tenido días en los que lo único que tenemos es el nombre de una persona y la colonia donde viven, asi que nos toca ir manzana por manzana y preguntarle literalmente a todos. El punto de todo esto es buscar miembros inactivos, e ironicamente encontramos a dos, y ninguna de ellas fueron a través de la lista jaja. Pero wueno, por lo menos los encontramos. Definitivamente, ha sido un cambio de ritmo muy diferente porque típicamente tenemos muchas personas en enseñanza y ahora sí que no tenemos casi nada. Lo bueno es que nos hemos enfocado mucho en nuestra relación con los miembros de la rama. El otro día salimos con la Hna. Lucia por 3 horas a proselitar!!! Máquinota. Tuvimos muchas lecciones con ella, y también una con su hermano y su esposa quienes son inactivos, que duró casi 2 horas porque solo nos querían decir porque somos horribles y no nos dejaban ir. Al próximo día fuimos a una fiesta con ellos y les trajimos coca jaja así que ojalá ahora les caigamos un poco menos mal.
Por supuesto que no puedo escribir un correo semanal sin mencionar la conferencia general. Toda mi vida, la conferencia general simplemente ha sido ese horrible fin de semana en el que mis papás me fuerzan a ver la tele por horassssssss (siguen siendo un buen). Pero ahora, definitivamente fue el punto alto de mi semana y una experiencia bastante edificante. Obtienes de algo lo que pones en ello, y puedo testificar que estos discursos realmente tienen el poder de cambiar nuestras vidas, pero solo si ablandamos nuestros corazones primero y somos receptivos a ellos. También, esta semana fue la despedida de nuestro querido Élder Natale y Góngora. Es triste verlos ir, pero estoy feliz de que estén progresando en su vida. La próxima vez que les escriba, oficialmente terminaré con mi entrenamiento y posiblemente estaré en una nueva área o con un nuevo compañero. Estoy muy agradecido por esta hermosa rama que me vio nacer jaja y también por mi entrenador. Cuando Élder Carroll y yo empezamos juntos, teniamos un total de 43 días en el campo combinados (42 él y uno yo), y ha sido un gran privilegio aprender de él. Quizá nos quedemos juntos y nada que ver con lo que acabo de decir jajaja pero ahí veremos.

Pensamiento Espiritual: Desafío a cada persona aquí a leer Éter 12 en el libro de mormón. No importa si eres miembro, católico, hindú, atéo o cualquier otra cosa. Este capítulo es tan poderoso, que yo sé que hay algo ahí para todos. Se los prometo. Cualquier duda o pregunta que tienen en sus vidas, hay algo ahí que probablemente les servirá. Una cosa que hice durante la conferencia general es que en vez de tomar notas de los discursos, tomé notas de mis impresiones del Espíritu. Salutations dear children of the most high king. I hope you had a great week. Everything is normal here in Zacatlán. Most of the week we focused on the list of inactive members, which has not yielded much result. We have had days where all we have is the name of a person and the neighborhood where they live, so we have to go block by block and ask literally everyone. The point of all this is to look for inactive members, and ironically we found two, and neither of them were through the list haha. But hey, at least we found them. It has definitely been a very different change of pace because typically we have a lot of people in teaching and now we have almost no one. The good thing is that we have focused a lot on our relationship with the members of the branch. The other day we went out with Sister Lucia for 3 hours to procelite!!! She's a machine. We had a lot of lessons with her, and also one with her brother and his wife who are inactive that lasted almost 2 hours because they just wanted to tell us why we are horrible and wouldn’t let us go. The next day we went to a party with them and brought them coke haha so hopefully they dislike us a little less now.
Of course I can’t write a weekly email without mentioning general conference. All my life, general conference has just been that horrible weekend where my parents force me to watch TV for hours and hours (they're still pretty long). But now, it was definitely the highlight of my week and quite an uplifting experience. You get out of something what you put into it, and I can testify that these talks really do have the power to change our lives, but only if we soften our hearts first and are receptive to them. Also, this week was the farewell to our beloved Elder Natale y Góngora. It's sad to see them go, but I'm happy that they're progressing in their lives. The next time I write to you, I'll officially be done with my training and possibly be in a new area or with a new companion. I'm so thankful for this beautiful branch that saw me born haha and also for my trainer. When Elder Carroll and I started together, we had a total of 43 days in the field combined (42 him and one me), and it's been a great privilege to learn from him. Maybe we'll stay together and none of what I just said will matter hahaha but we'll see.

Spiritual Thought: I challenge every person here to read Ether 12 in the Book of Mormon. It doesn't matter if you're a member, Catholic, Hindu, atheist or anything else. This chapter is so powerful, I know there's something in there for everyone. I promise you. Whatever doubt or question you have in your life, there is something there that will probably help you. One thing I did during general conference is that instead of taking notes of the talks, I took notes of my impressions from the Spirit. I invite you to do the same. Don't have a Book of Mormon?
